“The Opportunity” of Today Depends Upon Communication

Our economic engines are in flux. Change is happening all around us. All signs indicate that we are not going back to the “old school” methods of doing business.

Seth Godin describes “the opportunity” as the potential for anyone to create a micro market, but this micro market creation is increasingly dependent upon communication.

While communicating has gotten easier with the invention of computers and mobiles phones, it’s also gotten harder. Where is your micro market? Which tools are they using–texting, facebook, email, instant messaging, Twitter, LinkedIn updates, or voice mail? What time are they using them? And which type of content are they looking for on different tools?

And, with the ease of access to different communication tools, who you are competing against today, may not be who you are competing against for tomorrow?

Thanks to the “ease” of communicating, communications strategies have gotten increasingly complex. I think of them as a chess game or a crossword puzzle … how do all the moves intersect leading to the big win? Juggling multiple communications tools may seem overwhelming, but it’s very do-able for businesses of all sizes. Charge! May the best communicator win.
